Youth basketball summer camps at the Choo Smith Basketball Camps offer young players the same elite on-court training experience that all collegiate/NBA players receive, including off-court training from our Athletic & Personal Development specialists. The emphasis, though, is focused mainly on establishing proper fundamentals for future success.

Q&A with Charles "Choo" Smith about his growing organization.

Smith: As a former professional basketball player, I realize that you have to get into the head of the child. You have to determine how to motivate that child. I get into the pure essence of the child. I also concentrate on teaching them the fundamentals of basketball. I also want to develop the whole child. I also like to develop mental toughness. There are a lot of children that do not know how to handle everyday situations.

Smith: Yes, I believe that when you are developing a basketball player and a person involving life skills, they go hand in hand. There is no separation, everything is cohesive, whether it is basketball, becoming a doctor or whatever the occupation. I also allow the females to compete against the guys because their learning skills are enhanced when going up against stronger competition.

I feel it is my responsibility to give back to the children in Baltimore. Someone took a chance on me that lead to my success. I feel I should be able to do the same for the children I work with.
